KATHMANDU, JAN 09 - The CPN-UML presented certificates to its 84 newly elected Constituent Assembly (CA) members under the Proportional Representation (PR) system on Thursday. Party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal handed over the certificates to the PR lawmakers at a programme organised at the party office in Balkhu.

Speaking at the programme, Chairman Khanal urged the newly elected lawmakers to play a vital role in drafting the new constitution. He also directed to be committed and to act upon the proceeds.

The Election Commission (EC) had delivered the certificates of the PR lawmakers to the party. The certificates given by the EC were distributed today.

Meanwhile, a group of 350 CPN-ML cadres including some central committee leaders defected the party to join CPN-UML . Khanal welcomed the CPN-ML defectors to his party at a programme in party headquarters.

Central Committee leaders Deu Man Samwahamfe, Bhaskar Kafle, Chandra Kala Subba, Basu Dev Amatya and Suk Dev Yadav, among other leaders, have joined CPN-UML . The CPN-ML defectors said they joined the CPN-UML as the party has been established itself in the mainstream of the communist revolution. They said they could no longer stay in the party because it was dominated by unilateral individualistic ideology.

CP Mainali is the chairman of CPN-ML.
