Bhattarai blames Dahal for UCPN (M)'s poll defeat

KATHMANDU, JAN 02 - UCPN (Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai has claimed that Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal should take the major responsibility for the party's defeat in the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

Leader Bhattarai made such remark at a time when his relation with Chairman Dahal is souring following dissatisfactions over selection of party candidates under proportional representation category.

Talking to media persons at his residence in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Thursday, leader Bhattarai claimed that the chairman should be entirely accountable for the party's poor performance in the November 19 elections. "Everyone should take the responsibility according to their hierarchy," said leader Bhattarai, hinting at Chairman Dahal.

The Maoist ideologue said it was misfortune that Chairman Dahal refused to pay heed to the joint request made by him and leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha to make changes in the list of party's PR candidates.

"It was sad that the chairman refused to correct the PR list," said leader Bhattarai. "We will take up this issue for discussion at Central Committee meet." He vented his frustrations that Chairman Dahal finalised the PR list without even summoning the party headquarters meeting.

He said that his line of thought regarding the party's democratisation is shared by leader Shrestha.

Earlier on Monday, leader Bhattarai and Shrestha raised serious objection to the party's PR list prepared unilaterally by chairman Dahal, saying that the selection process was against the mandate of CC meet and criteria prepared for the same.
