Govt sans CPN-UML unthinkable: Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala today said that the NC cannot even think about forming a government without CPN-UML in it.

Koirala said this after a meeting with UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s residence in Koteshwor.

Koirala’s personal secretary Laxman Dhakal said, “NC does not want to exclude any party while forming the government and it is open to dialogue with parties, including the UML.”

In response, Nepal, according to his personal secretary Mohan Gautam, urged Koirala to come up with an appropriate proposal for government formation.

Dhakal added that Koirala has assured Nepal that the NC will come up with the government formation agenda after holding intra-party consultations, said Koirala’s personal secretary Laxman Dhakal.

Nepal, after the meeting, said, “An appropriate

power-sharing proposal in the government and in the Constituent Assembly is necessary.”

Both leaders, according to Gautam, agreed to hold the local bodies’ elections within one year and build political consensus on taking development projects ahead so that the country can be placed on the path of development and prosperity.

Koirala and Nepal also discussed the issue of who — the President or the Chairman of Council of Ministers— should call the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly, how to convene the government at the earliest and how to promulgate the new constitution within one year.
