Dil Kumar Rai of Mauwabote-6 died as he was thrashed on the charge of attempting to rape his sister-in-law.
Police said that a team including the sister-in-law, Pramila Rai, thrashed Dil Kumar after he tried to rape her in the house at 11:00 pm on Tuesday.
Jit Bahadur, a local, said that seriously injured Dil Kumar died at the house while preparations were being made to take him to hospital for treatment.
Police have arrested nine people on the charge of their involvement in the assault on Rai and brought them to the District Police Office for investigation, said Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Khotang, Durga Regmi.

मङ्गलबार राति ११ बजेतिर राईले बुहारीलाई घरैभित्र हातपात गर्न खोजेपछि उनीमाथि कुटपिट गरिएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।
जेठाजुले बलात्कार गर्न खोजेपछि प्रतिकारस्वरूप बुहारीले गुहार मागेका र पछि स्थानीयवासीले समेत कुटपिट गर्दा गम्भीर घाइते बनेका दिलकुमारको बुधबार ज्यान गएको थियो । रातको समयमा कुटिइएका दिलकुमारलाई उपचारका लागि लैजान तयारी गर्दागर्दै घरैमा ज्यान गएको बताइएको छ ।
घटनामा संलग्न रहेको आशङ्कामा नौजनालाई प्रहरीले नियन्त्रणमा लिएको छ । मृतककी बुहारी प्रमिला र सोही वडाका १७ वर्षीय पर्शुराम राई, १६ वर्षीय प्रकाश राई, १५ वर्षीय सन्तोष राई, १४ वर्षीया मेम्बरा राई, १९ वर्षीया वर्षा राई, ५८ वर्षीया फूलकुमारी राई, १९ वर्षीय जिनोद राई र २५ वर्षीय तिलक राईलाई पक्राउ गरिएको जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय खोटाङका प्रहरी निरीक्षक दुर्गा रेग्मीले जानकारी दिए ।
घटनास्थल सदरमुकाम
दिक्तेलबाट करिब २४ कोस दक्षिणमा पर्दछ । प्रहरीका अनुसार मृतक दिलकुमारको शव परीक्षणका लागि जिल्ला अस्पताल उदयपुर लगिएको छ ।

The incident site is around 60 kilometers south of the district headquarters, Diktel. The body has been taken to the District Hospital, Udaypur for postmortem, added police.
