HLPC shall finalise confusion over calling CA session: Koirala

KATHMANDU, JAN 03 - Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that the matter of summon ing the Constituent Assembly session shall be finalised by the High Level Political Committee (HLPC).

Inaugurating the 10th central General Convention of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) employees' association here in the Capital on Friday, Congress President Koirala rued the confusion surrounding the CA session while noting that the international practice was on favour of President calling the CA meeting.

He recalled that the then officiating head-of-the-state Girija Prasad Koirala had called the first meeting of previous CA in 2008.

"Taking the country towards economic progress with the prevention of corruption is the main challenge of the hour," he said, adding the development of hydropower and tourism sector was a must for the nation to become self-sufficient.

Also speaking on the occasion, newly elected CA member Ram Krishna Yadav thanked the party-affiliated trade unions for their support in achieving a good result in the November 19 CA elections.

Congress labour department chief Badri Pandey said the party can not take the democratic movement ahead without support and participation from workers.

Secretary at the Energy Ministry Bishwa Prakash Pundit said policy and internal security aspect is important for investment in the hydro power projects and the government should be serious towards the same.
